Never put an electric rice cooker’s base, cord or plug in the dishwasher. Some removable pots, lids or accessories may be dishwasher-safe, but only if the exact model’s instructions say so. A removable part is not automatically dishwasher-safe.
Check Each Part Separately
Find the cleaning section in the manual and identify the inner pot, detachable lid parts, steam cap, condensation collector and accessories. Their care instructions may differ.
For example, Aroma’s ARC-010-1SB manual says its inner pot is not dishwasher-safe. Do not apply a different model’s dishwasher permission to that pot, even within the same brand.
Keep the Electrical Base Dry
Switch off, unplug and let the cooker cool before cleaning. Wipe the base only by the method the manual specifies, typically with a damp cloth. Do not assume that the casing is waterproof, and never immerse the electrical base. Follow the cleaning instructions for your model, such as those in the Zojirushi NS-ZCC manual.
Avoid leaving water on the outside of the inner pot or in the electrical base. Dry permitted washable parts before reassembly, and do not use the cooker if liquid has entered areas the manufacturer says must stay dry.
Remove Stuck Rice Gently
Use the soaking method allowed for the removable pot. Loosen food with a soft sponge or suitable non-scratching utensil rather than scraping a nonstick surface with a metal spoon. The NS-ZCC cleaning guide illustrates gentle care for a coated inner pan.
Avoid abrasives and cleaning chemicals that the manufacturer excludes. If a coating is peeling or the pot is damaged, ask about the correct replacement rather than attempting to repair it yourself.
Reassemble Before the Next Use
Fit lids, steam caps and other removable parts exactly as directed. Do not dismantle components beyond the user-cleaning instructions.
Automatic cooking does not make every rice cooker suitable for unattended use. Follow its supervision and keep-warm limits as well as its cleaning instructions.
