Interesting Facts About LG

Did you know that LG was originally called “Lucky Gold-star?”

The company later started using the same initials for the tagline “Life’s Good.”

Now, here’s a little history of the company.

LG was established in 1947 by Koo In-Hwoi in South Seoul, Korea.

In the initial years, the brand focused on making plastics and later expanded to electronics and household appliances.

LG has various achievements to its credit, including the production of South Korea’s first radio.

From the time of its origin, the company has been led by its founder, Koo In-Hwoi’s family.

Since its establishment in the 1940s, LG has grown phenomenally.

The company now has a strong business presence in over 80 countries, with an ever-expanding product line of household appliances, entertainment solutions, and even business and energy management solutions.

Soon after LG ventured into the global market, it set up operations in different locations across the globe.

The growing demand for its products also created the need to set up manufacturing plants in various parts of the world to make it convenient to cater to customers all over the world.

Key Manufacturing Locations of LG Appliances

Today, LG products continue to be manufactured mainly in Korea.

However, they have outlets and factories in various other parts of the world.

Let’s take a closer look at these places.

1. South Korea

Since LG has its roots in Korea, it’s not surprising that the bulk of its manufacturing happens in the country.

Apart from its headquarters in Seoul, the brand also has several factories and outlets in Korea.

Its main manufacturing units are in the LG Smart Park in Changwon, 400 km from Seoul.

Most household appliances, like refrigerators and electronic goods, are manufactured and assembled here.

These are mainly intended for sale in Korea and the rest of Asia.

Some of the units made in this location are also shipped to Australia.

The LG Smart Park in Changwon has been dubbed the “lighthouse factory” for its innovative and futuristic technology.

This facility employs revolutionary technological advancements like the Internet of things, robots, and AI in their manufacturing and supply chain operations.

It’s also an eco-efficient and employee-centric facility where robots handle all the heavy lifting and dangerous operations.

2. China

LG products have a huge market in China.

So the brand started manufacturing plants in China in 1993. The main factory is in Beijing.

LG refrigerators are especially widely popular in the Chinese market.

The company produces nearly 1 million units of different household appliances just to meet the local demand.

Most LG factories in China produce a wide range of electronic items and don’t focus on just a single product.

While the household appliances manufactured here are consumed by the local market, a fair share is also exported to neighboring countries.

3. India

India is another country where there is a huge demand for LG household appliances.

According to TRA’s brand trust report, LG has consistently been recognized as the most desired refrigerator brand in India for two straight years.

The brand started its first factory in Pune, India, in 1997.

It later established several other manufacturing units in the country to cater to the growing demand of the Indian market.

The brand’s main manufacturing units are in Ranjangaon, Pune and Noida.

These factories are Greenfield factories that have won recognition for their eco-friendly initiatives.

The manufacturing unit in Greater Noida is one of the most eco-friendly appliance factories worldwide and is a trendsetter for other brands in the country.

The Pune facility is well-equipped to manufacture a wide array of products, including LED TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, and monitors.

LG has also announced plans to set up a few more factories in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

These factories will focus on manufacturing and selling inverter window ACs, which are currently being imported.

The new plant will also be well-equipped to produce nearly three hundred thousand dual inverter window ACs annually.

LG’s Indian locations are also the hub for exporting products to the Middle East and nearby countries on the Eastern coast of Africa.

4. Mexico

Mexico is a well-known hub for electronics, and hence it was essential for LG to establish its presence in the country.

Mexico has not just one but three massive LG manufacturing facilities.

They are in Reynosa, Mexicali, and Monterrey.

All these facilities are large factory units that produce a wide range of LG electronics and household appliances.

Reynola and Mexicali mainly produce TVs, while the Monterrey facility produces refrigerators for all of North America.

This plant also manufactures other household appliances like ovens, but the focus is on refrigerators.

A new LG facility is also coming up in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. It’s expected to be ready by 2023.
